Our Mission & Promise

Our mission is to make a positive difference in each member’s financial life. We do this through people-first service, fair pricing, and easy-to-use digital tools.

As a credit union, we’re owned by our members, not outside shareholders. That means earnings go back to you through better rates, lower fees, and ongoing investment in services that matter. Our “One Low Rate” lending philosophy keeps borrowing transparent and straightforward for qualified members so that you can focus on goals, not guesswork. From everyday banking to major life milestones, our team offers guidance, education, and secure technology to help you plan, save, and grow. Since 1952, we’ve served Tucson with the belief that doing what’s right for members builds long-term trust and stronger communities.

Who We Serve (Membership Eligibility)

Membership is open to individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Tucson. Additional qualifying paths include select employee groups and associations, or donating to an approved organization.

Hughes began by serving employees and families of Hughes Aircraft, and today we welcome a broader community. If you have ties to Tucson, you may be eligible to join. We also offer eligibility through certain employers, organizations, and family relationships. Once you become a member, your membership can last a lifetime, even if you move. You’ll have access to checking and savings accounts, credit cards, auto and home loans, and secure digital banking designed around convenience and control.

Our History in Tucson

Founded in 1952 to serve the Hughes Aircraft community, we have grown through local mergers and community expansion while keeping our focus on Tucson.

Our story started with a small group of employees who wanted a better way to bank, which was member-owned and mission-driven. Over the decades, we expanded our field of membership through key milestones, including mergers and NCUA approvals that opened service to more of Tucson. Today, with seven branches across the metro area, we continue to invest in strong governance, responsible growth, and technology that keeps banking secure and straightforward. Through every change, one constant remains: putting members and our community first.

Community Impact

Through Hughes Helps and other initiatives, we support financial education, local nonprofits, schools, and events across Southern Arizona.

We believe a healthy community strengthens every member’s financial life. We sponsor programs that teach money skills to kids, teens, and adults; partner with local organizations to address urgent needs; and encourage our employees to volunteer. From classroom presentations to citywide events, our team shows up with time, resources, and expertise. We focus on long-term impact by supporting education, well-being, and opportunity so Tucson continues to be a place where families and businesses can thrive.

Financial Strength & Recognition

We publish transparent financials yearly and maintain substantial capital and performance metrics for long-term stability.

Members trust us to safeguard their money and support their goals. Our Annual Report details assets, membership, capital ratios, audits, and strategic priorities so you can see how we’re performing and planning for the future. Recognition, such as Forbes' Best in State Credit Union lists and the Arizona Daily Star Readers’ Choice Awards, reflects our team’s commitment to service and value. With disciplined risk management and a member-first mindset, we aim to deliver dependable results through every economic cycle.
